Has to be done via a blood test--right? I'm not sure.

I wonder if gamblers are more health conscious than the public at large. I mean, we are all aware of the odds for this and that..so would logically follow that we as a group ARE more aware. Then again don't know if logic plays a part in this at all. Sometimes I think we may be better off knowing less.

Sad to say, I don't.

After 5 brats on Saturday, will not be checking it anytime soom either. :)

Need to do so though.

It should be ok hopefully because I consume a lot of cholesterol lowering foods(oatmeal, garlic, olive oil, etc., etc) and seldom consume over 300 mg of cholesterol per day, plus exercise fairly regularly.

Looking forward to seeing your results.........hope its all very good.

Is there a special blood test to check for cholesterol level?

I had my blood taken today as part of a routine physical , but never hear about the results. Is Cholosterol tested for normally?

PS---I'd lost 14 lbs on my diet!!! Yipee and doc said I didn't need to go on meds for it. Also he told me it is a myth of a certain number being "borderline" for putting a person on bp meds.

way to go whos!!!! thats awesome. keep up the good work. there is a special blood test for everything, and when u get blood drawn at the lab it is ONLY for what the doc ordered. u have every right to know your results and a quick way is to call the docs office and ask to talk to a nurse to discuss your results and what specifically was ordered.

Hey Whalewager...

What med are you on? My guess is Lipitor...

Here are the three most potent statins in order of strength....

Vytorin (combo of Zocor and Zetia)

Crestor (relatively new. Doctors have some concerns with Rhadomyalysis occuring-reason why Baycol was pulled a few years back)

Lipitor (the old gold standard...still an outstanding and effective drug)

If you are not on Vytorin I would recommend you asking your MD about putting you on it....200 point total cholersteral drops are not out of the question with this drug. Also raised you HDL (good cholesterol) which is becoming just as if not more important than total cholesterol.

Just an opinion.

Mine was like 215 or 220 or so. My doc told me to go on a diet and come back in a month. I didn't diet except for cutting out french fries, that's it, and it dropped dramatically. Same with my BP.

Egg whites have virtually 0 cholesterol. Egg beaters (egg white substitutes) are all protein and has 0 cholesterol. Tastes damn good too. Probably one of the very few protein meals that has 0 cholesterol. Have it for breakfast now very often. :thumbsup2:

BEANS are also a great source of protein with zero cholesterol.........and fiber.

Walnuts and almonds are two heart healthy nuts to consume also..................with walnuts being very high in specific Omega-3's.

I would recommend that if they want to start you on cholesterol meds, try to see if you can lower it by diet first, then when you go back and it's still high, then maybe think about meds or go on another diet.

Unless the cholesteral number is soooo high or out of the norm, then maybe meds, but other than that, just try go on a diet. Atleast that would motivate you to go on it and stick to it, instead of just relying on a med that who knows what the long term affect is.

if you're already on one, try to see if you can lower it.

Just an opinion, do whatever you want to do.
